Funding Roundup: 20 Startups Raised Over $543M in September

October 2, 2018

September may have welcomed Fall but the sun is still shining brightly on Boston startups. There were some monster funding rounds. Indigo Agriculture snagged $250M, Wasabi Technologies raised $68M in a Series B round, and biotechnology company Beta Bionics got $50M, also in a Series B round.

It was a good month for VC funds to raise rounds too — Venture capital firm COSIMO Ventures launched its first tokenized VC fund COSIMO X, focused on early stage deep tech companies. The fund invests in blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, AR/VR, IoT, and cybersecurity companies and will accept a minimum investment of $250K for qualified investors in the U.S., while traditional VC funds require a minimum investment of $500K or more.

Launched in 2016, MIT’s startup accelerator The Engine achieved a final close of $205.2M, exceeding the initial target of $150M. The team has already invested in 13 companies and is on pace to invest in 10 to 12 additional companies next year, according to the treasurer’s reportfor the year ended June 30th, 2018.
