There are approximately 36.7 million people living with the AIDS virus worldwide, and the disease has killed over 35 million people, making it one of the most devastating pandemics in history. [1]
Scientific advancements have been made. New laws have been enacted to protect patients with the virus. Generally, there is more of an understanding HIV and AIDS among the public; yet, the stigma and discrimination remain a reality for many people living with the condition. [1]
5B, a documentary produced by Johnson & Johnson, captures the story of heroic nurses at San Francisco General Hospital, who devoted themselves to HIV patients in the 1980’s, at the beginning of the epidemic when there was still much unknown about the disease. The film won the Entertainment Lions Grand Prix at Cannes and was created by Oscar-nominated director Dan Krauss.
During the first week of December, we acknowledge World AIDS Day. Join us, as Hanneke Schuitemaker, Global Head of Viral Vaccine Discovery and Translational Medicine at Janssen provides an overview of how we are combining our expertise in antivirals with the passion and dedication of our scientists to drive transformational innovation in HIV treatment. The presentation will be followed by a screening of 5B.
