We open our space the first Tuesday night of each month for you to join forces with other social impact movers and shakers to make Boston better! You can come jump in on a project, or bring a social impact project of your own. Join us this month for a special ImpactFest edition of OPN!

Come host small events, co-work, network, trade skills and get involved!

At Open Project Night you can:

  • Network with local people who share an interest in a better Boston, Cambridge, and beyond. Imagine together, share opportunities to get involved, and trade skills.
  • Work on existing local project ideas or come to work on your own (white boards provided, laptops are not).
  • Host your event or meeting in one of our meeting spaces (fit 4-6 comfortably), as long as you're open to others joining you!

What kind of projects are we talking about?
We'll update you on this month's projects soon, and you can apply to bring your project here!

Previously at Open Project Night, groups have included the following projects:

  • Join the Incluvie for their workshop, Diversity in Movies. Explore and discuss racial diversity in Hollywood movies and TV as a step toward encouraging racial harmony through film.

  • Interested in the intersection of behavioral economics, design, and psychology for advocacy and positive change? Join Nick Di Stefano with Action Design Boston to learn more about the field, and discuss current projects and ideas. This is an opportunity for practitioners and those interested in networking.
  • Learn to use and edit the largest collaborative mapping project in the world with Open Street Map Boston, and make Boston better by providing access to local spatial location data. (BYOLaptop!)

  • Boston OpenIDEO chapter meetup about Circular Design, where you can learn how to apply principles of Circular Design to design products that don't generate waste.

  • Taking local refugee support actions with the Cambridge Support for Syrian Refugees group

This event is a part of ImpactFest, our annual celebration of our community’s impact, of the strength of our social impact ecosystem in Boston, and of our fifth birthday as Impact Hub Boston. Learn from current members, Impact Hub alum, and other local social entrepreneurs about their work on pressing social and environmental issues and lessons from their entrepreneurial journeys. Contribute your skills to projects making a better Boston at Open Project Night. Discuss critical issues of our times and the roles we have in resolving them. Celebrate our fifth birthday as a community and home for social impact in Boston, and help imagine the local issues we might work together to tackle into the future. Build your network into a community.

Join us: October 1-10, 2018.

FAQ’s:

Do I need to have a project of my own to come along?
No, not at all! Just come along if you:

  • are keen to meet different people in your area who care about making Boston a better place.
  • want to brainstorm how your local street, library, or housing system might be different
  • want to work together with others to make changes happen in your area
  • want to find out about volunteering and work opportunities
  • want to find volunteers or recruits for your project
  • are running something like a neighbourhood garden, a friends of library group or an early-stage business and want a space to host events and meetings

What should I bring?

  • Materials you need to workshop / present your project
  • Your ideas & inspirations
  • A collaborative spirit to work with new + old friends
  • A snack to share, if you can! We’re believers of food as love, and sharing as caring.
