Wayfair’s Chief Architect will tell the story of how the company started a data science capability with a project using simple distance metrics on the graphs of product views and purchases in 2011, and gradually built a capability spanning multiple teams of quants wrestling with its most difficult analytical problems, including a visual search capability that was featured in Techcrunch last year.

Location Classification Using Crowdsourced Data at Scale

Jeff Palmucci, Director of Machine Intelligence at TripAdvisor, will discuss how they classify vegan restaurants, family friendly hotels, and hundreds of other types of places using machine learning and crowdsourced data. A serial entrepreneur, Jeff has started and sold several companies. He now runs the Machine Learning and Search groups at TripAdvisor.

Machine Learning and Finance; Through the ages

Tim is an econometrician with nearly 20 years of experience in economics and business consulting. He has been featured in PWC’s “Cities of Opportunity,” and his research has twice been discussed in The Economist. He is a visiting scholar and adjunct professor at New York University’s Center for Urban Science and Progress. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of North Carolina.
